Srinagar, January 14: The Indian Army on Wednesday  commemorated the 10th Defence Forces Veterans’ Day across multiple locations in the Kashmir Valley with a series of events and welfare initiatives aimed at honouring ex-servicemen and their families.

The commemorations were spearheaded by the Chinar Corps and executed by its formations, including the Dagger Division, Vajr Division, Counter Insurgency Force (Kilo), and the Jammu & Kashmir Light Infantry Regimental Centre. The initiatives were primarily focused on felicitating veterans, Veer Matas, Veer Naris, and their families for their contribution to nation-building, while also addressing their concerns with due care and respect.

Ex-servicemen rallies were organised at Srinagar, Drugmulla, Uri, Chak Kigam, Manasbal, Langate, and Haiderbeg, where senior military officials interacted with and honoured veterans and the families of martyrs. The events witnessed enthusiastic participation, with around 1,000 ex-servicemen and nearly 50 Veer Matas and Veer Naris, along with their families, taking part.

The programmes were designed to assist veterans in resolving issues related to pensions, documentation, and medical support, while also creating awareness about various government welfare schemes. These interactions provided a vital platform for veterans and their families to engage directly with military and civil officials, ensuring the prompt and effective redressal of grievances.

The observance of Veterans’ Day reaffirmed the nation’s deep gratitude and respect for its ex-servicemen, whose sacrifices have strengthened the sovereignty and security of the country. The Indian Army reiterated its commitment to further enhancing welfare measures for veterans and to continuing its service to those who have served the nation with courage and dedication.
