KUPWARA: On the directions of Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Shrikant Suse, the Additional Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Gulzar Ahmad Khan, today chaired a review meeting of officers at the DC Office Complex here to finalise the arrangements being made by all line departments for the smooth conduct of the auspicious religious occasion of Shab-e-Mehraj 2026.
During the meeting, the ADC Kupwara sought feedback from the concerned officers regarding the arrangements related to electricity, water supply, sanitation, fire services, transport, parking, and medical facilities being put in place for the observance of Shab-e-Mehraj.
The ADC directed all line departments to ensure special arrangements for the smooth observance of the pious occasion at prominent religious places, particularly during the intervening night (Shab) and the following Friday.
With regard to the adequate supply of drinking water, the ADC directed the Jal Shakti Department to ensure sufficient water supply at all prominent religious places so that devotees do not face any inconvenience.
Similarly, the Executive Engineer PDD was directed to ensure uninterrupted power supply during the auspicious occasion. The Municipal Committee officials were directed to ensure proper cleanliness in and around mosques and shrines falling within the municipal limits of Kupwara, Handwara and Langate.
Likewise, the Assistant Commissioner of Panchayat was directed to ensure cleanliness in rural areas where large congregations of devotees are expected.
The Tehsildars were directed to intensify market checking in all major markets of the district to ensure that no illegal hoarding or overcharging takes place.
The OC Beacon, Executive Engineers of R&B and PMGSY were asked to make advance arrangements for snow clearance, if required, on roads leading to prominent religious places.
The CMO of Kupwara was asked to ensure round-the-clock functioning of hospitals.
Regarding traffic regulation and parking facilities, the ADC directed the ARTO Kupwara and Traffic Police authorities to ensure hassle-free movement of devotees besides making adequate arrangements at designated parking spots.
The Tehsildars were further directed to ask Imams and Khateebs to deliver special sermons highlighting the ill effects and serious consequences of drug abuse under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
The ADC emphasised that drug addiction is a major social evil which destroys families, affects the mental and physical health of youth, leads to crime, unemployment and social instability.
Tehsildar Kupwara, Executive Engineers of PDD and Jal Shakti and other concerned officers attended the meeting, besides outstation officers attended the meeting virtually.
