Srinagar: Police have arrested three drug peddlers in Pulwama and Sopore and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

In Pulwama, a police spokesperson said 70.5 grams of cannabis powder-like substance was recovered from the possession of Samir Ahmad Wagay, son of Bashir Ahmad Wagay of Wahibug at Newa. He has been arrested

In Sopore, police arrested Musair Bashir, son of Bashir Ahmad Reshi of Veer Colony Aliebagh, at Parray Mohallah Hygam, after cannabis-like substance was recovered from his possession.

Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations for further investigation, spokesperson said.

In a separate statement, police said it recovered a huge quantity of contraband substance during an operation at village Lelhar in Pulwama.

Police spokesperson informed that acting on specific information, police raided the residence of Irshad Ahmad Dar, son of Shaban Dar of Lelhar, and recovered 8.795 kilograms of semi-grinded cannabis-like substance from there. The accused Dar was subsequently arrested and further investigation is underway to trace the source of the contraband and identify backward and forward linkages involved in the drug supply chain, police said.
