Ministers extend Lohri, Makar Sankranti greetings to people of J&K

JAMMU: Senior Ministers of the Jammu and Kashmir government today extended warm greetings to the people on the auspicious occasions of Lohri and Makar Sankranti, highlighting the festivals’ message of unity, renewal and cultural harmony.

Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Information Technology, Transport, Youth Services & Sports, Satish Sharma, said that Lohri and Makar Sankranti symbolise joy, togetherness and new beginnings, while reflecting the region’s rich cultural heritage. He expressed hope that the festivals would bring happiness, peace and prosperity to every household and strengthen bonds of brotherhood across communities.

Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo, in her message described the festivals as vibrant occasions marking harvest, hope and renewal. She said such celebrations reinforce harmony, mutual respect and social cohesion, and prayed for peace, progress and prosperity for the entire Jammu and Kashmir.

Meanwhile, Minister for Agriculture Production, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Cooperative and Election Department, Javid Ahmad Dar, extended greetings on Lohri, calling it a symbol of rich culture and traditions. He noted that the festival reflects unity, harmony and gratitude towards nature, particularly the farming community, and emphasised the need to preserve traditional festivals that strengthen social bonds.

All the Ministers prayed for good health, success and well-being of the people, expressing hope that the festive occasions would usher in a season of growth, peace and prosperity across Jammu and Kashmir.
