Srinagar: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) J&K, general secretary (Org), Ashok Koul, on Thursday asserted that Jammu and Kashmir, as a whole, is an integral part of “Bharat” and will remain “unbroken and undivided”, dispelling speculation that the Union Territory could be subjected to any further divisions.

Responding to a query from media at the party’s Srinagar head office here, Koul said the BJP had never supported the separation of Jammu and Kashmir, and that any remarks suggesting further division reflected individual views rather than the party’s stand.

“J&K as a whole is an integral part of Bharat. As far as the BJP’s ideology is concerned, we see J&K as J&K—undivided and unbroken. If someone speaks about more divisions, it’s an individual’s view, not the party’s,” he said.

Koul reiterated that the BJP’s core ideology had not changed, maintaining that the party “never supported any attempt to fragment Jammu and Kashmir”.

Responding to another questions on the National Medical Commission’s decision to revoke permission of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence (SMVDIME), Koul said the move was based “solely on the findings of an expert committee and was free from political or religious considerations”.

“After concerns were raised, an NMC special team inspected the college and found several anomalies. The committee found serious infrastructural deficiencies. There were no rooms, no doctors and no patients. There was no political or religious philosophy behind the decision,” he claimed.

Stressing that students must not be made to suffer, Koul said those affected by the decision had every right to a proper academic environment and should be accommodated in other medical colleges in the Union Territory on priority.
