3 drug peddlers held

Srinagar: Police have arrested three drug peddlers in Baramulla and Pulwama and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

A police spokesperson informed that Nisar Ahmad Malla, son of Ghulam Mohammad Malla; and Mohammad Ashraf Malla, son of Ghulam Qadir Malla of Doudbugh Chandoosa, were arrested at a checkpoint at Faqir-Bagh. He said 467 grams of cannabis powder-like substance along with one mobile phone was recovered from the possession of Nisar Ahmad Malla, while 33 grams of cannabis-like substance, ₹7,240 in cash, and one mobile phone was recovered from the possession of Mohammad Ashraf Malla.

A case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Chandoosa for investigation.

Acting on specific information, police raided the residence of Farooq Ahmad Chopan alias Beta, son of Ghulam Hassan Chopan of Watergam and recovered 7.212 kilograms of cannabis-like substance, spokesperson said.

He said a case under section 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Kreeri, while the accused person is yet to be arrested, police said.

In Pulwama, 4.5 kilograms of cannabis powder-like substance was recovered from the possession of Parvez Ahmed Dar, son of Ali Mohammad Dar, resident of Kulpora. Dar was arrested and a case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Litter for further investigation, police said.
