Secretary Transport reviews functioning of Weighbridge at Sonamarg

GANDERBAL: Secretary, Transport Department, Avny Lavasa, today visited Sonamarg to take stock of the functioning and facilities at the Weighbridge here.

The Secretary was accompanied by the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Kashmir, Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Ganderbal and other concerned officers and officials.

During the visit, the Secretary assessed the operational status of the weighbridge, availability of manpower and adequacy of infrastructure. She stressed the importance of strict enforcement of axle load norms to curb overloading, ensure smooth traffic regulation, enhance road safety and protect road infrastructure.

The Secretary directed the officers to ensure transparency in weighbridge operations, improve inter-departmental coordination and maintain round-the-clock functionality of the facility, especially during peak tourist influx and high-traffic periods.

She also interacted with the staff on duty and took stock of the challenges faced in routine operations, emphasizing timely redressal of issues to improve efficiency and public service delivery.

The visit was aimed at strengthening the transport enforcement mechanisms and ensuring effective regulation of vehicular movement in Sonamarg area.
