Srinagar: Reiterating the commitment of the BJP towards strengthening indigenous industries and empowering local communities, Ashok Koul, General Secretary (Organization), J&K BJP, accompanied by Anwar Khan, General Secretary, and other senior party leaders, participated in the closing ceremony of the two-day Swadeshi Mela at Polo View, Srinagar.

The Swadeshi Mela, organised on December 20 and 21, witnessed enthusiastic participation from artisans, traders, and citizens, while also being observed as International Feran Day, with participants proudly wearing and showcasing the traditional Kashmiri Feran.

Addressing the closing ceremony, Ashok Koul said that the Swadeshi Mela is much more than an exhibition, as it represents a powerful movement towards rebuilding and strengthening the local economy of Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized that promoting indigenous products, traditional skills, and local entrepreneurship is central to achieving sustainable economic growth and employment generation.

“Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the concept of Aatmanirbhar Bharat has become a nationwide resolve. Events like the Swadeshi Mela translate this vision into action by directly supporting local artisans, craftsmen, farmers, and small entrepreneurs. A strong local economy is the foundation of a strong nation, and Jammu and Kashmir has immense potential to lead this transformation,” Ashok Koul stated.

Koul further highlighted that the mela provided a vibrant platform for showcasing Kashmiri handicrafts, Pashmina products, carpets, silver jewelry, dry fruits, spices, traditional pherans, local cuisine, and folk music, thereby preserving cultural heritage while creating economic opportunities. Such initiatives, he said, will ensure inclusive growth, financial self-reliance, and dignity of livelihood for every resident of J&K.

Anwar Khan said that the overwhelming public response to the Swadeshi Mela reflects the growing awareness and acceptance of locally made products. He noted that supporting indigenous industries not only boosts the economy but also instills pride in local culture and traditions.
