Jammu: The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of Jammu and Kashmir has arrested the owner of a Delhi-based pharmaceutical firm in connection with multiple cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, officials said on Thursday.
The accused has been identified as Jatish Babbar, son of Harish Babbar, a resident of South Delhi and owner of Sakshi Pharma, they said.
According to officials, Babbar is already named in three NDPS cases registered at Police Station ANTF, Jammu — FIR No. 45 of 2020, FIR No. 04 of 2021 and FIR No. 06 of 2021. All the cases have been registered under Sections 8, 21, 22 and 29 of the NDPS Act, they added.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused was allegedly involved in the illegal procurement and supply of psychotropic substances by misusing his position as the owner of a pharmaceutical firm, officials said.
His role is being examined in the context of a wider inter-state drug trafficking network, and further investigation is underway to establish both forward and backward linkages.
Officials said Babbar was identified through technical surveillance, following which a team of ANTF Jammu traced and arrested him from Delhi.
The operation was carried out under the direct supervision of SSP ANTF Anwar-ul-Haq, they said.
The arrest is part of ANTF J&K’s ongoing efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks operating under the cover of pharmaceutical businesses, officials said, adding that more arrests and recoveries are likely as the investigation progresses.
Reiterating its zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking, ANTF J&K appealed to the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and share information related to drug abuse or trafficking, officials added. (KNS).
