Justice Sanjeev Kumar inaugurates National Lok Adalat at Jammu

JAMMU: A National Lok Adalat was held today under the leadership of Chief Justice, High Court of J&K and Ladakh (Patron-In-Chief, J&K Legal Services Authority), Arun Palli and Chairmanship of Justice Sanjeev Kumar, Judge High Court of J&K and Ladakh and Executive Chairman of J&K Legal Services Authority.

The event was held in presence of Justice Sindhu Sharma, Judge High Court of J&K and Ladakh and Administrative Judge for District Jammu and under the guidance of R. N. Watal, Chairman, District Legal Services Authority (Pr. District & Sessions Judge) Jammu and overall supervision of Maleeka Sharma, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority Jammu.

Justice Sanjeev Kumar, Judge High Court of J&K and Ladakh and Executive Chairman of J&K Legal Services Authority inaugurated the National Lok Adalat 2025 at District Court Complex, Janipur, Jammu.

Speaking on the occasion, Justice Sanjeev Kumar emphasized the importance of the National Lok Adalat in the amicable settlement of long-pending disputes. He also added that alternative dispute resolution is a vital tool in the Justice delivery system, which ensures speedy and one-time settlement of disputes. The general masses can take the benefit of Lok Adalats as the award passed by the Lok Adalat Benches attains finality, he added.

Further, while addressing the gathering, Justice Sindhu Sharma highlighted the importance of the National Lok Adalat. She said it has an important role in resolving the cases by providing a fast, affordable and accessible alternative to traditional Courts in India and providing a forum which promotes settlement through compromise and mutual agreement, fostering harmony between parties and saving time and money for the litigants.

On the occasion, Justice Sanjeev Kumar and Justice Sindhu Sharma also distributed MACT cheques among the claimants.

In the 4th National Lok Adalat, different kinds of cases were taken up, wherein the litigants settled their cases in an amicable and conducive manner.

A Total of 30 benches were constituted in different Courts to deal with the matters of Civil nature, Bank Recovery, Criminal Compoundable, MACT, Matrimonial, NI Act u/s 138, Revenue Cases, BSNL Cases and other Civil Cases.

The total number of 3717 cases pertaining to different natures were taken up in this national lok adalat, of which 2522 cases were settled. The total Amount recovered is Rs 13,34,67,277.
