During the operation, the team intercepted two suspicious individuals — Sobiya Bano (29), and Tahir Ahmad Khan (26), both residents of Trikanjan in Boniyar, he added.

A search of their belongings revealed 964 grams of a heroin-like substance, in two packets weighing 424 grams and 540 grams, respectively. According to police, the contraband is valued at approximately Rs 1 crore in the illegal market.

Additionally, two mobile phones and a vehicle were seized, the spokesman said, adding that a case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and further investigation is underway.

Separately, three drug peddlers, including a woman, were arrested with 170 grams of heroin and some weapons in the outskirts of Jammu city, officials said on Tuesday.

The arrests were made in the border town of RS Pura when police intercepted a car after its occupants attempted to flee at Daljeet Chowk, they said.

However, the team successfully managed to stop the vehicle and detained all three individuals for questioning. During the checking of the vehicle and occupants, police recovered 170 grams of heroin and two sharp-edged weapons.

Those arrested have been identified as Pritam Singh alias Sethi, Narayan Sharma alias Shunna and Jaspreet Kour alias Preeti — all residents of Samba.

Following the recovery, a case was registered at RS Pura Police Station and further investigation is underway to trace the supply chain, financial links and other individuals connected with the illicit trade, they said.

Meanwhile, at Kadlabal Pampore Chowk, police intercepted a vehicle (JK04F-4498) with two persons on board. During the search, 37.740 kgs of poppy straw (Fuki) was recovered from their possession. Both the accused — Jehangir Ahmad Dar of Kandour Khansahab, Budgam and Mushtaq Ahmad Dar of Palpora, Budgam were and vehicle seized.
