In a press statement issued here today, a spokesman of the department stated that as many as 11 stalls showcasing exquisite hand-crafted products made by trainee artisans from across 432 training centres under the department and the Massive Carpet Scheme (MSC) were the highlight of the event, which was organized in the backdrop of the earlier successful event organised in August last.

“From Kashmiri crewel embroidery, hand-knotted woollen carpets, papier-mâchie, willow wicker basketry, copperware Kandakari to Sozni and Kani shawls, along with vintage craft products like Namda and Gabba rugs were on display,” he added.

Giving details, the spokesman said while District Srinagar led with sale proceeds of ₹4.27 lakh, woollen carpets under MSC recorded revenue of ₹3.00 lakh. “The other districts also recorded satisfactory sales with Bandipora at ₹46,000, Ganderbal, ₹1.20 lakh, Baramulla ₹35,000, Anantnag ₹55,000, Budgam ₹1.10 lakh, Shopian ₹36,600, Pulwama ₹55,000, Kupwara ₹7,350 & Kulgam ₹21,000,” he added.

The spokesman further added that the revenue generated reflects a perfect example of how funds released by the Government are recycled back into the system and utilized for development activities related to promotion of the craft sector.

The spokesman further stated that the sale expo was not just about revenue, but also giving much-need impetus and confidence to the trainees who hold key to the sustenance of Kashmir Handicrafts in future. “The overwhelming response from visitors exudes confidence that Kashmiri craftsmanship is in safe hands,” he said, adding the huge footfall reflected strong public support for skill development and rehabilitation initiatives.
