Srinagar: Police on Monday said they have arrested a person who was allegedly involved in a fatal hit-and-run case in Kulgam.
According to a police spokesperson, earlier today, a road accident occurred at Nipora, Mirbazar, in which Abdul Ahad Khanday (aged 87 years), son of Abdul Khaliq Khanday, resident of Nipora Mirbazar, was hit by an unknown vehicle. The injured person was shifted to GMC Anantnag, where he was declared brought dead.
Investigating the case, police obtained and analysed CCTV footage, through which the vehicle involved was identified as a white Mahindra Bolero (JK03L-9171). The said vehicle was subsequently seized, and the driver involved in the accident, identified as 21-year-old Sheikh Burhan Tariq, son of Tariq Ahmad Sheikh, resident of Qazigund, was arrested. Further legal proceedings under relevant sections of law are underway, police said.
