Srinagar: The Border Security Force (BSF) on Monday said infiltration attempts along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Kashmir Frontier have decreased this year, with four attempts recorded so far.

Two of the attempts took place before Operation Sindoor and two after it, he said.

Addressing a press conference at the Humhama headquarters on the 61st Foundation Day of the BSF, Inspector General Kashmir Frontier Ashok Yadav said 13 infiltrators were involved in these attempts. He said eight were killed by the Army during joint operations, while five returned to the other side.

Yadav said coordinated deployment of BSF and the Army along the LoC has contributed to lowering infiltration activity. He said four attempts were foiled during his tenure through joint action by the two forces.

On a query about BSF-generated intelligence, the IG said the force continues to share inputs that lead to counter-terror operations and recoveries of weapons and other material.

He said infiltration groups are using some new routes, but the pattern remains largely unchanged.

According to him, the BSF intelligence component regularly generates inputs that are acted upon jointly with the Army.

Referring to the emergence of “white-collar” terror groups involving educated youth with no previous record, Yadav said security and intelligence agencies are working together to track such recruitments and identify those involved.

Yadav said 13 BSF companies are deployed in the hinterland in support of the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) and are assisting in operations and monitoring areas based on intelligence inputs.

Responding to a question on launching pads across the LoC, the IG said inputs indicate that some sites have been shifted deeper following Operation Sindoor. He said the operation continues and forces remain alert to any misadventure.

Yadav said narco-terror activity and attempts to push drugs for financing militancy remain a concern. He said drone activity has been observed across the LoC for surveillance purposes, but no drone has crossed into this side in recent months.(KNS).
