Tamil Nadu emerges overall Champion as 42nd Junior National Tennikoit Championship concludes in Jammu

JAMMU: The five-day 42nd Junior (Boys & Girls) National Tennikoit Championship concluded today at Green Field, Gandhi Nagar, with Tamil Nadu lifting the overall championship trophy after a series of outstanding performances.

The championship brought together around 550 players and officials from 23 States and UTs, making it one of the largest and most competitive national Tennikoit events held in Jammu in recent years.

The closing ceremony was graced by Minister for Youth Services & Sports, Satish Sharma and Advisor to Chief Minister of Nasir Aslam Wani, who attended as the chief guests. They felicitated the winning teams during the medal ceremony held soon after the final matches.

Speaking on the occasion, Satish Sharma congratulated all the participants and particularly lauded Tamil Nadu for emerging as overall champion. He said, “These young athletes symbolize the strength, discipline and promise of India’s sporting future.”

“J&K is proud to host national events that promote excellence while spreading the message of health, peace and harmony across the region. The government will continue to ensure world-class facilities and opportunities for our athletes to excel,” maintained the Minister.

Nasir Aslam Wani, in his address, praised the championship’s high standard of play and the determination shown by the young players from across the country. He remarked, “This event reflects the expanding sports culture in India and the passion that drives our youth. J&K has once again proven itself as an efficient, warm and capable host for national sporting championships. The performance and discipline displayed here will inspire many more young athletes.”

The ceremony was also attended Jewal Vasra, Chairperson, Tennikoit Federation of India, who attended as Guest of Honour. Expressing gratitude, she said, “The Jammu & Kashmir administration has been an exceptional host. Their support, hospitality and seamless arrangements ensured that this championship became a memorable experience for every athlete, coach and official.”

Senior officials from the Tennikoit Federation of India and the J&K Sports Council were present at the closing ceremony, commending the energy, skill and sportsmanship displayed throughout the event.

With the successful conclusion of this national championship, J&K continues to strengthen its position as a leading centre for major sporting events, offering the young athletes a vibrant platform to perform and progress.
