SRINAGAR: The Department of Urology, Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar, in collaboration with leading national and international faculty, successfully concluded Valley Urocon 3, a two-day conference featuring workshops and Continuing Medical Education (CME) sessions.

Over 300 delegates participated, making the event a landmark gathering for the urology community in Jammu & Kashmir.

The conference opened with a series of insightful lectures by a distinguished national faculty, covering topics ranging from laparoscopic radical prostatectomy to emerging therapies for benign prostatic hyperplasia.

Secretary, Health & Medical Education Dr. Syed  Abid  Rasheed Shah, who inaugurated the event, delivered the keynote address. “It is heartening to witness such a high-calibre academic event in Jammu and Kashmir. Valley Urocon 3 exemplifies our government’s commitment to fostering medical excellence and making advanced surgical care accessible to our citizens. The display of skill and knowledge here is a promising step towards establishing our UT as a leading hub for medical tourism and innovation. I congratulate the entire team for their exceptional work.”

Day 2 was dedicated to live surgical excellence, aligning with the conference theme “Advancing Urology Through Innovation.” Twelve advanced 3D laparoscopic surgeries were performed, including laparoscopic radical prostatectomy, radical nephrectomy, pyeloplasty and minimally invasive BPH treatments (Rezum and Urolift).

Chief Patron Prof. Iffat Hassan Shah, Principal, Dean & Chief Patron, GMC Srinagar, commented: “Valley Urocon 3 has set a new benchmark for academic excellence in the region. The seamless integration of theoretical knowledge with world-class live surgical workshops underscores our commitment towards advancing medical education and patient care. My heartfelt congratulations to the entire Department of Urology and all the partners involved for orchestrating such a monumental success.”

Organising Chairman Prof. Syed Sajjad Nazir, HOD of Urology, GMC Srinagar, added: “The resounding success of this conference is a testament to the collective spirit of the urology community. We are immensely proud to have provided a platform that not only showcased groundbreaking procedures like advanced 3D laparoscopy but also fostered invaluable national and international collaborations.”

Associate Professor Dr. Tanveer Iqbal expressed gratitude, “I am profoundly grateful to every individual who contributed to the success of this conference. The enthusiasm, expertise and dedication displayed by the faculty and delegates have made this event truly successful.”

The conference was attended by Mohammad Ashraf Hakak, Administrator, GMC and its Associated Hospitals; HODs, Dr.  Rubeena  Shaheen, Medical Superintendent and the expert academic faculty including Prof. K Parikh, Prof. S K Paul, Prof. Anup Kumar, Prof.  Elias  Sharma, Prof. Uttem Mette, Prof. Arif Hamid, Prof.  M  Salim  Wani, Prof. Chander Mohan Verdi, Dr. Abhishek Singh, Dr. Rahul Gupta, Dr.  Retish Mehta and Dr. Rohit among others.

The conference has elevated the standards of urological care in the region and reinforced GMC Srinagar’s commitment to medical excellence.
