Anti-BJP rhetoric part of Abdullah’s election toolkit to befool Kashmiris: LoP Sunil Sharma

Jammu: Targeting the ruling National Conference, Leader of Opposition (LoP) Sunil Sharma on Saturday, accused the party of committing “electoral fraud” by promising free electricity before elections and now burdening the people with proposed hefty 20 percent tariff hike.

Sunil Sharma said the NC’s 2024 election manifesto has collapsed under its own lies and false assurances.

“Omar Abdullah promised 200 units of free electricity to every household in Jammu and Kashmir. Today, more than a year later, instead of fulfilling that promise, his government is preparing to loot people with an outrageous 20 percent increase in peak-hour consumption charges,” he said.

Challenging the chief minister directly, Sharma added that if Omar Abdullah has even an ounce of honesty, let him reveal how many households have actually received the so-called free 200 units. The people deserve to know how badly they’ve been misled.

Sharma asserted that the BJP will strongly resist any move that adds to the financial burden of ordinary citizens. He said the proposed tariff hike has already generated widespread anger among political parties, traders, and common consumers, all of whom see it as an “unjust, exploitative, and anti-people decision.”

He reiterated that the NC government should withdraw the proposal immediately and deliver what it promised during the elections, instead of punishing the very people it vowed to support.
