DM Baramulla chairs 22nd NCORD meeting at Dak Bungalow

BARAMULLA: The District Magistrate (DM) Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, today chaired the 22nd NCORD meeting at Dak Bungalow Baramulla to review the ongoing measures to curb drug abuse and trafficking in the district.

The meeting was attended by Senior Superintendent of Police Baramulla, Gurinder Pal Singh; Additional Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, officers from Police, Health, Education, Excise, Social Welfare, and other departments, who shared updates and discussed strategies for effective coordination in tackling the issue.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC emphasized the need for collective and sustained efforts from all stakeholders to eradicate the drug menace from society. He directed the concerned departments to install CCTV cameras at identified hotspots and asked the Education Department to ensure regular monitoring of CCTV footage in educational institutions to prevent any illegal activities.

The DC further directed the ARTO to suspend the driving licences of individuals found involved in drug peddling or consumption, as per the law.

He stressed that strict enforcement, awareness, and rehabilitation must go hand in hand to make Baramulla a drug-free district. The DC also called for intensified awareness campaigns in schools, colleges, and public spaces to sensitise youth about the harmful effects of substance abuse.
