Srinagar: Widespread grief has been expressed across political and media circles over the passing of veteran journalist Tariq Ahmad Bhat, Bureau Chief of The Week, who passed away following a cardiac arrest on Monday morning.
Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) President Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Vice President & Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed profound sorrow at the demise, describing Tariq Ahmad Bhat as “a respected and principled voice in journalism whose integrity, professionalism, and dedication to truth set a benchmark in the field.”
They noted that his fearless reporting and commitment to facts earned him widespread respect. “Tariq Sahib’s contribution to journalism in Jammu and Kashmir will be remembered for years to come. His passing is a great loss to the media fraternity and all who value honest and responsible journalism,” they said while extending condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and colleagues.
The party’s Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq visited the bereaved family and offered condolences, particularly to the deceased’s nephew Abid Bashir Wani. Among others, Ali Muhammad Sagar, Nasir Aslam Wani, Shammi Oberoi, Imran Nabi Dar, Sarah Hayat Shah, Ifra Jan, GM Mir Saqi, and other NC functionaries also extended sympathies to the Bhat family.
Meanwhile, Apni Party Senior Vice President Ghulam Hassan Mir also expressed deep grief and shock over Bhat’s sudden demise. “I am deeply saddened to hear about the passing of prominent journalist Tariq Ahmad Bhat. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. May Allah grant him the highest place in Jannah and give patience to his family,” Mir said, adding that the Apni Party stands in solidarity with the bereaved family during this difficult time.
