Govt failed on all fronts; session too short to discuss public issues: LoP Sharma
FacebookTwitterWhatsapp

Srinagar: LoP Sunil Sharma on Thursday said that the government had failed to show seriousness toward the flood victims of Jammu and Kashmir and announced a walkout from the House over the issue.

Speaking during the proceedings, Sharma said the House was assured that a discussion would be held on a resolution related to flood victims, but it did not take place. “We were told there would be a discussion on the flood victims, but it never happened. The government has shown no seriousness toward their suffering, and that’s why we are walking out of the House,” he said.

He said people affected by the floods had been waiting to hear what steps the government would take for their relief and rehabilitation. Sharma said that an adjournment motion was brought by an opposition member to ensure seriousness on the issue, but it was disallowed.

He added that the people were disappointed with the government’s response and that their expectations were ignored. “If the government does not have seriousness for the flood victims, we have no reason to sit here,” Sharma said before walking out.(KNS)
