Srinagar: Displaying exceptional skill, teamwork, and determination, the Jammu and Kashmir Girls Roll Ball Team clinched the bronze medal in the 18th Roll Ball National Championship 2025, held in Agra from October 25 to 28.
The remarkable performance stands as a testament to the growing strength of girls’ participation in sports across J&K and highlights the region’s commitment to gender equality and empowerment through athletics.
Led by captain Qurat-ul-Ain, who scored 22 goals, the highest ever tally recorded by a J&K girls’ team in a national event, the team showcased both confidence and consistency. Her outstanding effort also earned her a new bicycle from the federation as recognition for her remarkable performance.
In a hard-fought semi-final, J&K narrowly lost to Haryana by 2–1, before sealing third place overall in the U/14 category.
Minister for Youth Services & Sports, Satish Sharma, congratulated the team for their outstanding display, saying, “Our girls have once again shown that perseverance and passion can overcome all odds. Their victory is a victory for every young girl in J&K who dreams of excelling in sports. We are continuously working to enhance sports facilities so that both boys and girls have equal opportunities to shine.”
Yasha Mudgal, IAS, Commissioner Secretary, Youth Services & Sports, praised the team’s spirited performance and emphasised the role of sports in empowering young women. “The success of our Roll Ball team reflects the immense potential of our girls when given the right platform and support. Promoting gender equality in sports is central to our mission, and the government is committed to expanding facilities and opportunities for them across J&K,” she said.
Expressing her delight, Nuzhat Gul, Secretary, J&K Sports Council, remarked, “This medal is a proud moment for all of J&K. Our girls continue to set new benchmarks in national events. The Sports Council remains dedicated to nurturing talent, building inclusive infrastructure, and ensuring that sports become a channel of empowerment for every girl in J&K.”
The dignitaries congratulated the players, coaches, and the J&K Roll Ball Association for their contribution to this achievement, reaffirming their commitment to supporting women in sports and strengthening grassroots programs that promote equality and participation.
