Srinagar: Police in Awantipora have solved a hit-and-run case by arresting the accused person involved in the incident, seizing the vehicle involved in the accident.
Police said on October 10, 2025, an unknown vehicle hit and injured a five-year-old boy Ariz, son of Abdul Gaffar Bhat of Hardumir Tral. The injured child was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment and was later referred to SMHS Hospital Srinagar, where he succumbed to injuries.
A case under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Tral, and during investigation, police with the help of modern techniques, including analysis of CCTV footage from various locations across the Tral area, zeroed in on a suspected vehicle. After hectic efforts, the accused driver — Mukhtar Ahmad Mir, son of Habibullah Mir of Amlar Nowpora, at present Naibugh Tral– was identified and arrested. The vehicle (JK13G-6873) involved in the accident has also been seized.
