Srinagar: Police have arrested five drug peddlers in Baramulla, Shopian and Anantnag and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
A police spokesperson informed that one Tahir Hameed, son of Abdul Hameed Khan of Gingel, was arrested at Gingel Bridge after seven grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from his possession.
At Narwani Amerbug crossing in Shopian, Aijaz Ahmad Bhat of Moman Danjipora Bijbehara was arrested and 1.480 kgs of cannabis-like substance recovered from his possession.
In Anantnag, at Dachigam Pethnoo Crossing, police intercepted a vehicle (JK19A-0435), with three persons on board. Identified as Bilal Ahmad Bhat, son of GhulamNabi Bhat of Katritang Bijbehara; Feroz Ahmad Dass, son of Ali Mohammad Dass, and Ajaz Ahmad Mattoo, son of Ghulam Mohammad Mattoo, both residents of Waghama Bijbehara – the trio was arrested after 4.584 kgs poppy straw concealed in a nylon bag was recovered from the vehicle, which was also seized.
Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations for investigations.
