17 ‘long-time absconders’ arrested: Police

Srinagar: Police have apprehended seventeen “long-time absconders” from Srinagar, Pulwama, Ganderbal, Kulgam, Shopian and Sopore. These individuals had been evading arrest for years, some for over three decades, a police spokesperson said.

He said in Srinagar, police apprehended six absconders who had been evading arrest for years. The arrested absconders have been identified as Mehraj-ud-Din Marazi, son of Mohd Abdullah Marazi, resident of Sonwar (absconding for 11 years); Arshid Ahmad Shoora, son of Abdul Rashid Shoora, resident of Bota Kadal, Lalbazar (presently at Hamchi Saidpora, Hazratbal, Srinagar — evading arrest for 8 years); Habibulla Bhat, son of Abdul Samad, of Kralpora Kupwara, ( at present Lalbazar — evading arrest for 27 years); Gowhar Ahmad Wani, son of Wali Mohammad Wani of Arigam, Budgam (evading arrest for four years); Mashooq Ahmad Sheikh, son of Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh of Ramnagri Shopian (at present Gulshan Nagar, Nowgam — evading arrest for four years); and Uneeb Mukhtiyar Nathkhan, son of Mukhtiyar Nathkhan, resident of 90 Feet Road, Soura (absconding for 16 years).

In Pulwama, police arrested two long-term absconders – Abdul Salam Dar, son of Ghulam Qadir Dar, resident of Chowan Keller (absconding for 25 years); and Mohammad Ayoub, son of Mohammad Ramzan Khanday, resident of Thairnoo Keller (absconding for the past 10 years).

Police arrested a “wanted individual” who had been evading arrest for a long period of time. The arrested person has been identified as Mehraj Ud Din Rather, son of Abdul Rahim Rather, resident of Arigam Chirath.

In Ganderbal, police arrested an absconder who was evading his arrest for 27 years. The arrested person was identified as Lateef Ahmad Khuroo, son of Habibullah Khuroo of Bemina Srinagar.

In Shopian, police have apprehended three absconders — Mushtaq Ahmad Dhobi, son of Abdul Salam Dhobi of Chotigam Shopian; Abdul Rashid Khan, son of Mangta Khan of Manloo Shopian; and Mohammad Yousuf Mir, son of Mohammad Abdullah Mir of Wangam Achabal Anantnag.

In Kulgam, police apprehended two absconders. The arrested individuals were identified as Mohammad Ismail Bhat, son of Mohammad Ramzan Bhat of Alamgunj, Shopian; and Showkat Ahmad Dar, son of Mohammad Yaqoob Dar of Khanaywapora Qaimoh.

In Sopore, police arrest two absconders. The arrested persons were identified as Mohammad Akbar Khan, son of Shair Ali Khan of Arkhairwari Rohama (who had been evading the law for 24 years); and Altaf Ahmad Rather, son of Ghulam Nabi Rather, resident of Warpora Sopore (evading arrest since 2019).
