DC, SSP Sgr chair District NCORD meeting, reviews anti-drug measures

SRINAGAR: To review the impact of ongoing efforts and strategise further measures in the fight against drug abuse and its trafficking, a meeting of the District Level Committee on Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) was convened today under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Akshay Labroo here at the Meeting Hall of the DC Office Complex.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar, Sandeep Chakravarthy was also present in the meeting.

At the outset, the Deputy Commissioner was given a comprehensive briefing on the key measures undertaken in the district to combat drug abuse, trafficking and ensure proper rehabilitation of affected individuals. The DC was apprised of recent seizures, arrests, financial investigations, and detentions carried out under the NDPS Act.

Furthermore, the DC was apprised of steps taken to ensure accurate revenue entries in NDPS cases to safeguard property records and cent percent use of computerization/online billing system at pharmaceuticals in district.

On the occasion, the DC emphasised effective anti-drug public awareness and sensitization campaigns, strengthening of Addiction Treatment Facilities (ATFs), improved interdepartmental coordination, and intensified surveillance and preventive measures at identified vulnerable hotspots.

The DC underscored the importance of eradicating the illegal cultivation of contraband crops such as bang and poppy within the district. He also sought proactive community engagement in the ongoing war against drug abuse.

The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Aadil Fareed; Superintendent of Police, Umar Shah; SDM East, SDM West, Chief Education Officer, District Statistics & Evaluation Officer, District Social Welfare Officer, Assistant Labour Commissioner and Officers of Excise, Drug Control Organization, DYS&S, Heads of ATFs at SMHS, SKIMS Bemina and other concerned.
