19 absconders arrested: Police

Srinagar: Police have apprehended nineteen “long-time absconders” from Kulgam, Anantnag, Shopian, Ganderbal and Awantipora, a police spokesperson informed Friday.

He said these individuals had been evading arrest for years, some for over three decades in connection with serious criminal cases.

In Kulgam, two absconders, identified as Aijaz Ahmad Sheikh, son of Ghulam Qadir Sheikh, resident of Nassu Badrahgund, and Bilal Ahmad Ganie, son of Ghulam Nabi Ganie, resident of Lalen Ganoor Kulgam, presently residing at Levdora near Railway Bridge Qazigund were arrested. Aijaz Ahmad Sheikh was evading arrest for about 20 years, while Bilal Ahmad Ganie was absconding for around 19 years.

In Anantnag, police apprehended five absconders who had been evading arrest for years in connection with serious criminal offenses, including abduction, rape, and theft. The arrested absconders were identified as Mohammad Yasin Wani, son of Mohammad Maqbool Wani of Brenti Batpora Dialgam, at present Nagam Kokernag (evading arrest since 2005); Abdul Gani Dar, son of Juma Dar of Pindobal, at present Singhpora Ashmuqam (evading arrested since 2000); Sabir Khatana, son of Shafi Khatana, resident of Ahlan Gadole (evading arrested since 1999); Riyaz Ahmad Gigi, son of Mohammad Qasim Gigi of Lamed, Kulgam (evading arrested since 2022); and Manzoor Ahmad Bakerwal, son of Kaloo Bakerwal, resident of Jorda Arnas Reasi, at present Noorpora Tral (evading arrested since 2022).

In Shopian, police apprehended absconder identified as Abdul Rashid Sheikh, son of Abdul Rehman Sheikh of Karewa Manloo, Shopian. The accused had been absconding since 1989.

In Ganderbal, police arrested two absconders evading arrest for more than three decades. The arrested individuals were identified as Shabir Ahmad Pakhtun, son of Lala Din Pakhtun of Wangath, and Mohammad Lateef Khatana, son of Gami Khatana, also of Wangath.

In Awantipora, police arrested nine absconders. They were identified as Mohammad Shafi Bhat, son of Abdul Aziz Bhat of Drangabal Pampore; Fayaz Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Mohd Dar of Kadlabal Pampore; Mohammad Shafi Mir, son of Mohd Maqbool Mir of Kadlabal Pampore; Zahoor Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Hamid Bhat of Tulbagh Pampore; Mudasir Manzoor Shah, son of Manzoor Ahmad Shah of Kadlabal Pampore; Mudasir Ahmad Sofi, son of Ghulam Mohammad Sofi of Namblabal Pampore; Faheem Ahmad Darzi, son of Mohammad Ashraf Darzi of Namblabal Pampore; Javid Ahmad Mir, son of Abdul Majeed Mir of Frestabal Pampore; and Muzaffar Ahmad Mir, son of Bashir Ahmad Mir of Drangbal Pampore.
