The restrictions have been relaxed a week after peaceful protests turned violent in Leh on September 24, leaving at least 4 civilians dead and several others injured.

Following the protests, authorities enforced curfew in Leh to contain the law and order situation. The Home Ministry had blamed activist Sonam Wangchuk for inciting the mob through his speeches with reference to Arab Spring uprising and Nepal Gen-Z protests.

Just two days after the violent clashes, Wangchuk was arrested under stringent National Security Act (NSA) and shifted to Jodhpur Central Jail from Leh on the same day—(KNO)
