Officials, staff, and volunteers of IGNOU actively participated in the one-hour drive, which focused on cleaning public spaces, removal of plastic waste and litter, proper disposal of non-biodegradable items, and spreading awareness among locals on maintaining hygiene. The event, organised in the spirit of Jan Bhagidari, aimed to inspire behavioural change and strengthen civic responsibility. It concluded with a reflection session, where participants pledged continued support to the Swachh Bharat Mission.

On 26 September 2025, IGNOU Regional Centre Srinagar, in collaboration with the Department of Ayush, Government of Jammu & Kashmir, organised a Health Check-up Camp under the Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivir initiative at Karhama village, Tangmarg (Baramulla district), one of the remotest areas in the region. A team of AYUSH doctors conducted free medical check-ups, consultations, and provided medicines to local residents. AYUSH-based treatments were also offered, and health kits distributed, particularly for common ailments. Awareness sessions were held on hygienic practices, sanitation, and environmental cleanliness, encouraging community participation under Swachhata Hi Seva 2025.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mohd Abdullah, Assistant Regional Director, IGNOU Regional Centre Srinagar, urged the public to properly dispose of non-biodegradable waste and keep their surroundings clean. He also inaugurated the medical camp at Government AHWC Karhama Tangmarg along with Dr. Irfan and his team. Dr. Irfan underlined the importance of linking health awareness with hygiene and preventive practices.

The initiatives witnessed enthusiastic participation from IGNOU learners, community leaders, and local residents, who appreciated the accessible healthcare support and cleanliness drive. These activities reinforced IGNOU’s commitment towards creating cleaner surroundings, promoting health, and supporting the objectives of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
