Inter-Hostel Football tournament (men) concludes at NIT Srinagar

Srinagar: The much-anticipated Inter-Hostel Football Tournament (Men) at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar concluded successfully, showcasing intense competition, skill, and sportsmanship.

Organized by the Students Activity & Sports (SAS) Centre, the tournament saw participation from all hostel teams, making it a major sporting event on campus. A total of 8 teams competed in this edition.

The final match was contested between the 3rd-year and 2nd-year teams, with the 2nd-year team clinching victory 1–0. The match-winning goal was scored by Yameen Gatto (2024BCHE015) in the second half, securing the championship for his team.

The tournament was formally inaugurated by Dean Students Welfare, Prof. Mohammad Abid Bazaz, who emphasized the importance of such events in promoting holistic development among students.

He further said that this final match showcased not just skill and strategy but also the spirit of unity and sportsmanship that sports instill in students.

In his message, Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia, lauded the enthusiasm of participants.

“Events like the Inter-Hostel Football Tournament play a vital role in nurturing talent and instilling discipline among students. I congratulate all participants and the winners for their exemplary performance,” he said.

Registrar, Prof. Atikur Rehman, also congratulated the teams, saying, “Such tournaments reflect the institute’s commitment to promoting extracurricular activities alongside academics. The spirit, teamwork, and competitive energy displayed today are truly commendable,” he said.

I/c Faculty SAS, Dr. Manoj Kumar, congratulated the organizing team and players. He said sports play a crucial role in shaping the character of students.

“The energy and discipline demonstrated in this tournament reflect the values we aim to cultivate at NIT Srinagar. We will continue to support and expand such initiatives to create a vibrant sports culture on campus,” he added.

SAS Officer Kowsar Ali Mir said that the SAS Centre will be organizing more inter-hostel tournaments in the coming months. We aim to provide students with even more opportunities to engage in sports activities, fostering physical fitness and teamwork alongside their academic pursuits,” she said.

The event concluded with the distribution of trophies and medals, celebrating the winners and acknowledging the efforts of all participating teams. The SAS Centre aims to continue organizing similar sporting events to encourage further student engagement, fitness, and camaraderie on campus.
