Srinagar: A couple from the Umerabad HMT area of Srinagar met with a tragic road accident on Thursday evening, resulting in the death of a woman and leaving her husband critically injured.
The incident occurred near Umerabad HMT when the couple was reportedly crossing the road and was struck by a speeding vehicle. The injured were immediately shifted to JVC Hospital, Bemina, where doctors declared the woman—identified as 50-year-old Fahmeeda, wife of Bashir Ahmad of Umerabad HMT—dead on arrival. She had sustained severe head trauma.
Her husband, Bashir Ahmad, 55, remains admitted at the hospital in critical condition.
According to family members, the couple was crossing the road when they were hit by the speeding vehicle, which fled the scene. However, police said swift action led to the arrest of the driver and the seizure of the vehicle involved in the accident.
A police officer confirmed to KNT that legal formalities have been initiated, and further investigations are underway to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the accident.
