BARAMULLA: Directorate of Rural Sanitation today organized the ‘Swachhata Hi Sewa’ event at picturesque Gulmarg here, with the aim to spread awareness among the masses about the importance of cleanliness.

Minister for Agriculture Production Department, Rural Development Department, and Panchayati Raj, Cooperative and Election Department, Javid Ahmad Dar, was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, the Minister emphasised on the significance of maintaining cleanliness to protect the environment for future generations. “Let us work together to save our environment and ensure a healthy and prosperous future for our children,” he said.

The Minister stated that the ‘Swachhata Hi Sewa’ event aims to promote cleanliness and sanitation awareness among the public, encouraging community participation in maintaining a clean and healthy environment.

He added that the event’s theme, ‘Cleanliness for a Better Future’, resonates with the audience, inspiring them to take collective action towards a cleaner and greener tomorrow.

The Minister urged the public to take an active role in maintaining cleanliness and promoting environmental sustainability. He underlined that individual efforts, when combined, can lead to significant positive change and a better future for all.

MLA Gulmarg, Farooq Ahmad Shah, while speaking on the occasion, highlighted the importance of cleanliness and plantation drives in the current situation, stressing that it is crucial to keep our surroundings clean and plant more trees to mitigate the impact of climate change.

The event marked the beginning of a concerted effort to promote cleanliness and environmental awareness in the region, with the participation of local communities, government officials, and stakeholders.

Among others, the event saw the presence of DDC, Chairperson Baramulla, Safina Beigh; MLA Pattan, Javaid Riyaz Bedar; MLA, Wagoora- Kreeri, Irfan Hafiz Lone; Director General Rural Sanitation J&K, Anoo Malhotra; Director Rural Development Department Kashmir Shabir Hussain Bhat; Director Panchyati Raj, J&K Sham Lal and other senior officers of Rural Sanitation and Rural development departments.
