Div Com Jammu reviews post-flood restoration, relief measures

Directs departments to expedite restoration of essential services, DCs asked to submit detailed damage assessment

JAMMU: Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar, on Saturday, chaired a high-level meeting to review the relief and restoration works in the districts of the Jammu division post heavy rains and floods.

During the meeting, the Divisional Commissioner took a detailed assessment of damages to public infrastructure and the status of essential services, including power, water and road connectivity in each district.

The Chief Engineer JPDCL informed that electricity has been restored in all affected areas. Similarly, the Jal Shakti Department reported that barring a few areas, the water supply has been largely restored.

Reviewing road infrastructure, officials from PWD and PMGSY briefed the Div Com on damaged roads and ongoing repair works. The Divisional Commissioner issued strict directions to expedite restoration work and asked for submitting detailed estimates, work progress reports, and timelines for completion of works.

The Chief Engineer, Irrigation and Flood Control, presented updates on the restoration of canals damaged by the floods.

Regarding the education sector, the Director of School Education informed that most schools have reopened, while others will resume after the ongoing safety audit is completed. The Div Com instructed that classes be shifted to nearby safe buildings where schools have suffered structural damage.

The meeting also reviewed damages to higher education institutions, including Jammu University and SKUAST. The Div Com asked representatives to submit details of damages with estimates of works.

While reviewing the Agriculture and allied sectors, the Div Com directed concerned officers to conduct surveys of crop losses and report infrastructure damages.

Further, damages to infrastructure and services in RDD, Floriculture, Horticulture, Fisheries, Animal/Sheep Husbandry, Health, Industries, SIDCO, and Tribal Affairs departments were also reviewed.

All departments and Deputy Commissioners have been instructed to submit detailed reports of damages along with requisitions for both temporary and permanent restoration measures on priority.

The meeting was attended by heads of key departments, while Deputy Commissioners and district officers joined via video conferencing.
