Ramban: In the aftermath of the tragic cloudburst that struck Rajgarh in Ramban district on August 30, claiming five lives and leaving several families devastated, Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Sunil Sharma visited the affected area to express solidarity with the victims and assess ongoing relief efforts.

The cloudburst triggered sudden flash floods and mudslides, causing extensive damage to homes, farmlands, and infrastructure. The calamity has left the local community in mourning and in urgent need of support.

During his visit, Sharma met the bereaved families, offered condolences, and assured them of every possible assistance to help them recover from the tragedy. “We stand firmly with every family affected by this disaster,” he said, stressing that the government must ensure swift and adequate relief. He further assured that he would personally follow up to see that promises made are fulfilled.

He was accompanied by senior district administration officials, police officers, and local BJP leaders, who briefed him on the status of rescue, relief, and rehabilitation operations. Sharma urged the authorities to expedite compensation for the victims and ensure timely rehabilitation for displaced families.

The LoP also interacted with local residents, social workers, and political leaders, listening to their grievances and suggestions regarding the restoration of essential services such as water supply, electricity, road connectivity, and education infrastructure disrupted by the disaster.

Highlighting the need for better preparedness in vulnerable hilly regions, Sharma underlined the importance of installing early warning systems and strengthening disaster response mechanisms to prevent such losses in the future. He called upon both the UT administration and the Central Government to extend all necessary support for rebuilding the affected areas.

Sharma emphasized that long-term rehabilitation—including livelihood restoration and psychosocial support—must be prioritized to ensure complete recovery. He reaffirmed his commitment to standing by the people of Rajgarh and ensuring that their voices are heard at every level of government.
