Redefining student-teacher equation

Every September 5, India celebrates Teacher’s Day, honouring Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and the educators who shape our lives. But who do we truly consider a teacher. Is it only the classroom mentor guiding us through textbooks, or does the title belong to others who quietly mould us. Let’s broaden our view to celebrate all who teach us.

Our first teacher is often our mother, nurturing us through those unspoken months before birth, teaching us love before we know the word. Then comes the father, whose proud smile welcomes his first student ready to share lessons from life’s highs and lows. Beyond parents, countless others friends, strangers, even challenges—teach us resilience, kindness, and wisdom. Yet, society often reserves the title teacher for academic educators alone.

Schoolteachers, no doubt, play an extraordinary role. Beyond syllabi, they embody patience, discipline, and care, becoming mentors, counselors, and cheerleaders. Their affection, though unquantifiable, shapes careers and characters alike.

But limiting teacher to classrooms overlooks the broader journey of life’s lessons. The neighbor who taught you to fix a bicycle, the friend who showed you empathy, or the failure that taught perseverance—all are teachers behind the Classroom walls

This Teacher’s Day, let’s honor not just academic guides but everyone who has taught us a single line of wisdom. From parents to passersby, their lessons weave the fabric of who we are. So, reach out—say “Happy Teacher’s Day” to those unsung mentors. After all, the world is a classroom, and every moment is a lesson waiting to be learned.
