Srinagar: On the occasion of International Literacy Day, Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah emphasised the significant strides made by the region in the field of education largely owing to the efforts of successive NC governments.

In his message, Dr. Farooq Abdullah stated, “International Literacy Day serves as a global occasion to reflect on the progress made in literacy across the world. It offers an opportunity to critically evaluate what literacy means in today’s digital age, and how literacy teaching, learning programs, and policies are designed, implemented, and monitored. Jammu and Kashmir is a prime example of success in this regard, with substantial investments in educational infrastructure across all sectors.”

He further acknowledged that the transformative vision put forth by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will have a lasting impact on the region’s education system. “Omar Abdullah’s leadership focuses on enhancing early childhood education, upgrading school infrastructure, and reforming higher education. One of the key highlights of his government’s budget is the plan to position Jammu and Kashmir as a leading hub for legal education. Additionally, efforts to strengthen research, digitisation, and attract private sector investment in higher education are vital to the region’s progress,” he said.

Dr. Farooq also underscored the importance of continued investment in the education sector, particularly in the digital era, to ensure the region keeps pace with global developments and offers students opportunities to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.
