Tangmarg: J&K Police have unearthed a conspiracy to falsely implicate a local resident by planting a fake Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at his house, leading to the booking of three individuals, including a lawyer couple.

According to police, on July 31, 2025, Tangmarg Police Station received an input about an IED allegedly planted at the residence of Manzoor Ahmed Khan, son of Mohammad Ayoub Khan, of Mahayan Ferozpora. Acting swiftly, police, along with security agencies, launched a cordon and search operation.

During the search, a suspicious package was recovered near the main gate of Khan’s house. A bomb disposal squad confirmed that the package contained a plastic box designed to resemble an IED, but it posed no explosive threat.

A case (FIR No. 56/2025 under sections 329(3), 324(6), 248 BNS) was registered, and investigations identified Sajad Ahmed Ganie, son of Mohammad Qasim Ganie, of Nowgam Sumbal, as the prime suspect. He was apprehended after going into hiding and confessed to planting the fake IED at the behest of Advocate Rahila Qadri, wife of Advocate Rayees Ahmed Bhat of Pandithpora Tangmarg.

Police said Rahila Qadri, estranged ex-wife of Manzoor Khan, conspired with her current husband, Advocate Rayees Bhat, to falsely implicate Khan due to a long-standing matrimonial dispute. The investigation revealed that Ganie also misled the police by providing false information after placing the fake IED.

All three accused have been served notices under relevant legal provisions, and the case will be taken to its logical conclusion before a competent court of law. (KNS)
