Drug peddler detained under PIT NDPS Act in Kupwara

Srinagar: Police in Kupwara have detained a “habitual” drug peddler under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act, 1988.

The accused, Abdul Qayoom Lone, son of Mohammad Munawar Lone, resident of Lashtiyal, Kalaroos, Kupwara, has been detained for his repeated involvement in drug peddling activities. He was earlier booked in FIR No. 80/2024 under Sections 8/21 NDPS Act at Police Station Kupwara.

After thorough investigation and compilation of incriminating evidence, the Senior Superintendent of Police, Kupwara submitted a detailed dossier to the competent authority, following which the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, ordered Lone’s detention.

The accused has been lodged in District Jail Rajouri for preventive detention, police said.

Separately, at Salkoot Kupwara, one Jahangir Ahmad Khan, son of Mohammad Yaseen Khan of Gutlipora Haihama, was arrested after a “substantial amount” of heroin and cannabis-like substance was recovered from his possession.

A case FIR No. 275/2025 under Sections 8/20, 21 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Kupwara for investigation, police said.
