Srinagar: The Economic Offences Wing of Crime Branch Kashmir has successfully secured convictions in two separate criminal cases, marking a significant achievement in its ongoing efforts to combat economic crimes in the region.

In the first case, the Court of City Judge Srinagar convicted the accused Mukhtar Ahmad Guroo and Nazir Ahmad Guroo both the sons of Gulla Mohd Guroo R/o Abi-Karpora, Nehru Park Dalgate Srinagar in case FIR No. 24/2008 under Section 420, 109-B RPC of P/S Crime Branch Kashmir (now Economic Offences Wing) after thorough investigation and diligent prosecution by Crime Branch Kashmir, a spokesman said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

“The case pertained to grabbing of an amount of Rs 34 lakhs from the complainant on the pretext of purchase of a residential immovable property, concealing the fact that the complainant being a foreigner cannot do so for, where the accused was found guilty of causing substantial financial loss to the complainant,” the statement reads.

After a marathon trial of 12 years, the Court of law convicted both the accused individuals to simple imprisonment for a period of two years and imposed a fine of Rs 5000 per offence.

In the second case, again the Court of City Judge Srinagar delivered a verdict in a case under FIR number 54/2002 under Section 420, 468, 471, 120-B RPC of P/S Crime Branch Kashmir (now Economic Offences Wing) against seven accused individuals involved in preparing (in connivance with each other) and submitting fake marks card of 10th class for seeking admission for one of the accused in Higher Secondary School.

Following a detailed investigation that uncovered strong documentary, oral evidence and dedicated thorough legal pursuit leading to conviction. The Court of law convicted all seven accused individuals to simple imprisonment for a period of two years and imposed a fine of Rs 5000 per offence, it added.

These convictions reflect the commitment of Crime Branch Kashmir to uphold the rule of law and bring to justice those involved in white-collar crimes. The department continues to pursue all such cases with professionalism and legal precision, the statement added—(KNO)
