New Delhi: In a significant boost to the capital’s rail infrastructure, the Delhi Division of Northern Railway has successfully completed a major modernization project at Delhi Sarai Rohilla Railway Station.

The upgradation work, carried out between July 21 and July 28, 2025, focused on enhancing capacity, safety, and operational efficiency. The project, executed at an estimated cost of ₹25 crore, marks a substantial step forward in meeting the growing demands of rail transport in the region.

Delhi Sarai Rohilla is one of the most important stations in the Delhi area, handling around 104 trains daily, including key services such as the Jaipur Double Decker, Duronto Expresses to Jammu Tawi and Yeshwantpur, Chetak Express to Udaipur, and the Ajmer Janshatabdi. The station sees a daily footfall of approximately 30,200 passengers and plays a crucial role in connecting the national capital to various parts of the country.

The station is now better equipped to manage operations following an intensive yard remodeling exercise. The project included the provision of one additional loop line and two stabling lines, significantly boosting the station’s capacity to handle more trains and streamline operations. The remodeling has also made shunting operations more convenient and efficient.

A major highlight of the project was the replacement of the outdated interlocking system with a distributed electronic interlocking system. This upgrade not only enhances operational efficiency but also ensures greater safety and improved connectivity. As part of the modernization, four turnouts and nine traps were inserted into the track layout, modernizing the overall structure and improving movement flexibility.

The project was a complex and time-bound task involving around 300 railway officers, employees, and contractual staff. Heavy machinery, including six JCBs and four Hydras, was deployed, and the workforce operated around the clock to complete the work within the designated block period.

Officials from Northern Railway commended the dedication and coordination that went into the timely execution of the upgradation project. The successful remodeling of Delhi Sarai Rohilla Railway Station is expected to significantly improve train punctuality, operational capacity, and passenger convenience, aligning with Northern Railway’s ongoing commitment to infrastructure enhancement and service excellence.
