KU’s CCAS begins lecture series on workplace spirituality

Srinagar: To promote interdisciplinary academic engagement with Indian philosophical traditions and their relevance to workplace ethics, the Centre of Central Asian Studies (CCAS), University of Kashmir (KU), on Wednesday started a Study Circle Lecture Series titled “Workplace Spirituality with Insights from Indian Philosophy and its Empirical Validation in Indian Context” at the main campus.

Sponsored by the Indian Council of Philosophical Research (ICPR), New Delhi, the series will feature 12 lectures per month on various topics.

Speaking at the inaugural session, Vice-Chancellor KU, Prof. Nilofer Khan, said, “This initiative is a meaningful attempt to contextualise Indian philosophical wisdom in today’s professional and institutional settings. It will help nurture value-based education and ethical sensitivity among learners and educators alike.”

Prof. Khan also inaugurated the Digital Archaeology Lab at the CCAS that is envisioned as a resource hub for digital archiving, heritage preservation, and archaeological research.

Dean, School of Social Sciences KU, Prof. Aneesa Shafi said that the theme is relevant in today’s time when mental well-being, spiritual alignment and professional ethics need to go hand in hand.

Former Director CCAS KU, Prof. Mushtaq A. Kaw, delivered the keynote address and reflected on Kashmir’s rich heritage of multicultural coexistence and its alignment with inclusive spiritual philosophies.

Prof. G.N. Khaki, Director, International Centre for Spiritual Studies, IUST, spoke about the growing relevance of workplace spirituality as an interdisciplinary academic theme.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Director CCAS KU, Prof. Wahid Nasaru, emphasised that the lecture series aims to generate sustained dialogue on ancient Indian wisdom and its practical applications in everyday institutional life.

Dr. Mumtaz A. Yatoo, faculty at CCAS KU and coordinator of the event, conducted the event proceedings. The inaugural session was attended by various faculty members, research scholars and students of the campus.
