Srinagar: Cricket fever has gripped the Kashmir Valley once again with the launch of the first edition of the Chinar Premier League (CPL) — a major T-20 championship organized by the Indian Army’s Chinar Corps in Baramulla district.
More than just a sporting event, the CPL is envisioned as a platform to promote peace, youth engagement, and sporting excellence, while paying tribute to the late Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat.
What sets this year’s tournament apart is its unprecedented Pan-Kashmir participation, with over 64 teams from across the region competing for the coveted title. The event is being held from July 21 to August 22, 2025, and promises to be a powerful celebration of youth energy and the spirit of sportsmanship.
According to officials, the tournament also seeks to instill values of discipline, teamwork, and patriotism—principles that defined General Rawat’s illustrious career in the armed forces.
“The overwhelming response and enthusiasm from the youth is a testament to the growing love for cricket in the Valley and the desire for positive platforms of engagement,” a spokesperson from the Chinar Corps said.
