Srinagar: Police have arrested five drug peddlers in Awantipora and Baramulla and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

A police spokesperson informed that Khursheed Ahmad Ganie, son of Ghulam Qadir Ganie of Khanmoh was arrested at Tulbagh Crossing after four grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from his possession.

At Befina road Pampore, three persons — Manzoor Ahmed Mir, son of Abdul Khaliq Mir of Kadalbal; Asrar Manzoor, son of Manzoor Ahmed Baba of Pantha Chowk; and Muneer Rasool Bhat, son of Ghulam Rasool of Namblabal Pampore – were arrested after 10.38 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from their possession.

One Hilal Ahmad Bukhari, son of Abdul Majeed Bukhari of Kreeri was arrested at Wanigam Payeen and his scooty (JK05J-6187) seized after 1.95 kg of poppy straw-like substance was recovered from his possession.

Cases have been registered in respective police stations for further investigation.
