Handwara police recovers ₹28 lakh from cyber fraudsters

Handwara: In a significant breakthrough against cybercrime, Handwara Police has till date recovered an amount of ₹28 lakh in the current year, which had been defrauded from the public through various online scams.

Of this, ₹16 lakh has already been restored to the rightful owners, while the remaining ₹12 lakh has been secured and will be disbursed after completion of legal formalities and receipt of court orders.

Throughout the current year, Handwara Police received several complaints regarding cyber fraud from residents across PD Handwara. Acting promptly, the Cyber Cell from Handwara Police, under the close supervision of senior officers, launched swift technical investigations. Early intervention enabled the freezing of fraudulent transactions, leading to the successful recovery of funds from the suspected accounts.

This notable achievement underscores the enhanced technical capability and professional preparedness of Handwara Police in countering evolving cyber threats. The victims have expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the prompt and effective action taken by the police.

Handwara Police urges the general public to remain vigilant while using digital platforms, online banking services, and mobile applications. Citizens are advised not to share personal or financial information with unknown individuals and to report any suspicious activity immediately to the nearest police station or cybercrime helpline.
