Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Additional General Secretary Dr. Sheikh Mustafa Kamal Friday commended the efforts of J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in reviving the tourism sector in Jammu and Kashmir, following the terror attack in Baisaran, Pahalgam.

Dr. Kamal stated that despite the shock and setback caused by the incident, CM Omar Abdullah’s proactive engagement with stakeholders, and confidence-building measures have played a crucial role in restoring normalcy and reassuring both tourists and locals.

“Tourism is the backbone of Jammu and Kashmir’s economy, and the Chief Minister’s prompt and effective response has ensured that the sector remains resilient in the face of adversity,” Dr. Kamal said, adding that the revival efforts have sent a clear message of strength and stability.

Further emphasizing the need for political empowerment of the people of J&K, Dr. Kamal urged the Union government to fulfill its promises regarding the restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.

“Only an elected government with complete powers can truly address the aspirations and concerns of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. New Delhi must honor its commitments so that democratic institutions here can function with full authority and accountability,” he said.

Dr. Kamal reiterated JKNC’s stand that restoring statehood is a necessary step toward rebuilding public trust and enabling long-term peace and development in the region.
