‘End Plastic Pollution-campaign’ begins at Sgr to promote eco-friendly alternatives to SUP

SRINAGAR: As part of a nationwide mass mobilisation campaign aimed at raising awareness about the urgent need to end plastic pollution, in the run-up to World Environment Day 2025, the ‘End Plastic Pollution’ campaign begins in Srinagar district to promote eco-friendly alternatives to Single-Use Plastic (SUP).

The Environment awareness programmes were held on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Dr Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat in Harwan area of the district to highlight the severe consequences of plastic waste on the environment and human health, and to encourage sustainable practices among students and staff to combat this growing menace.

In this regard, the team of block Shalimar of the Social Forestry Range Srinagar, organized a comprehensive cleanliness drive around the Dachigam Nallah in Harwan.

The team also organised a Green March, Cleanliness Drives, and a pledge-taking ceremony at Government Boys High School Harwan and at Abhay Mission High School Dachigam, under this year’s global theme: ‘Ending Plastic Pollution.’

The events witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, staff and the officials of the Social Forestry department to reinforce the commitment to safeguard natural resources and promote a clean and green environment.

The events were aimed to spread awareness about keeping our surroundings clean and reducing plastic use. Everyone took a pledge to protect the environment and support the theme ‘One Nation, One Mission-End Plastic Pollution’.
