Srinagar: In a significant stride toward promoting gender equity and inclusive development, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), J&K, successfully organized the second edition of its flagship initiative ‘SheLeads’ at Hotel Golden Tulip, Srinagar.

Held under the theme “Changing the Narrative,” the day-long event brought together distinguished women leaders, policy influencers, industry voices, and young changemakers to highlight the growing role of women in shaping a progressive Jammu & Kashmir.

The event was inaugurated by Haya Qazi, Co-Convenor of the CII J&K Education Panel and Chairperson of Salvatore International School, who, in her welcome address, emphasized the need to shift mindsets. “Changing the Narrative is not just our theme – it is our mission,” she said, underlining the importance of building systems where women lead with confidence, creativity, and courage.

The event was graced by Er. Auqib Sultan Waheed Deva, Chief Engineer (Distribution), KPDCL Kashmir, as the Chief Guest. In his powerful address, he lauded the SheLeads platform and spoke passionately about women’s empowerment, urging institutions and families to play an active role in nurturing women’s leadership. “The achievements of women in today’s society – from science to governance – are proof of what becomes possible when opportunities and support systems align,” she stated.

Bisma Qazi, Superintendent of Police, Government of J&K, delivered an inspiring talk, sharing her personal journey during civil services preparation. Speaking to a hall filled with aspiring young women, she recalled moments of struggle and perseverance. “ The path may be tough, but your dreams are valid and achievable,” she encouraged, receiving a resounding applause from the audience.

The event also featured celebrated poetess and Sahitya Akademi awardee Naseem Shafaie, Dilafrose Qazi, Director, SSM College of Engineering, Ifat Hamid, General Manager, Gender Mainstreaming and Program Implementation, Prof. Deeba Sarmad, Dean, Humanities and Liberal Arts, Cluster University, Srinagar

In a special address, Dr. M.A. Alim, Chairman, CII J&K, praised the SheLeads initiative for its role in challenging outdated norms and fostering new leadership narratives. “Empowering women is not a favour – it is a strategic imperative,” he remarked, calling for collaborative action to scale up women-led ventures and introduce gender-inclusive policies across sectors.

The closing remarks were delivered by Mr. Iqram Ali Shafiee, Vice Chairman of CII J&K. He expressed gratitude to everyone for their contributions to the highly successful event, She Leads, and emphasised that he hopes this is just the beginning.

As Jammu & Kashmir stands at the cusp of transformation, SheLeads served as a powerful reminder that when women rise, societies transform; when women lead, economies thrive; and when narratives change, they change for good.
