7 drug peddlers held

Srinagar: Police on Wednesday said it has arrested seven drug peddlers in Anantnag, Baramulla and Kulgam and recovered heroin-like contraband substances from their possession.

In Anantnag, two drug peddlers — Mohammad Irfan, son of Mohammad Jehangir Khan of Ghaziabad, UP ;and a female drug peddler from Bawana JJ Colony, Delhi-39, were arrested after 6 grams and 3 grams of heroin-like substances were recovered from them.

Another woman drug peddler of Bangidar, was also apprehended near Bangidar Bridge with seven grams of heroin-like substance. One Ishfaq Ahmad Hajam, son of Gul Mohammad Hajam of Saidwara, Dooru Shahabad was arrested after 6 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from him.

In Baramulla, at Hardbani Kunzer Bridge two persons — Mushtaq Ahmad Waza, son of Mohammad Ramzan Waza of Mamoosa Pattan, and Abdul Qayoom Parra, son of Ghulam Mohiuddin Parra of Reram Kunzer – were arrested after 26 grams of contraband and a cash of Rs 4000 were recovered from Waza and 20 grams of cannabis-like substance from Parra.

In Kulgam, 302 grams of cannabis powder-like substance was recovered from the possession of Muneeb Ahmad Bhat, son of Bashir Ahmad Bhat of Berigam Qazigund, following which he was arrested.

Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations for further investigations.
