Srinagar: The Postgraduate Department of Minimal Access and General Surgery, Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar, in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Association of Surgeons of India (JAKASI), successfully conducted a Live Operative Workshop on Advanced Laparoscopic GI and Gynae Oncosurgery today at the GMC Auditorium.
The workshop drew enthusiastic participation from surgical faculty and postgraduate students from across the region.
The event’s highlight was the participation of Dr. Shailesh Puntambekar, a globally acclaimed laparoscopic oncosurgeon from Galaxy Hospital, Pune. Dr. Puntambekar captivated attendees with live demonstrations of highly complex procedures, including Laparoscopic Whipple’s Procedure, Laparoscopic Low Anterior Resection (Lap LAR) for Carcinoma Rectum, and Laparoscopic Wertheim’s Hysterectomy for Carcinoma Endometrium. His precision and mastery set new standards in surgical practice and education.
The inaugural ceremony was held under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Iffat Hassan Shah, Principal and Dean, GMC Srinagar. Dr. Puntambekar was the Guest of Honour, while Prof. Rukhsana Najeeb, Principal GMC Anantnag, and Prof. Dr. Fazl-ul-Qadir Parray, Principal SKIMS Medical College, attended as special guests, marking their presence at this academic milestone.

The workshop was accredited with four CME credit hours and reaffirmed GMC Srinagar’s position as a leading institution in advancing clinical skills and academic engagement in the field of surgery.
