Prayagraj (UP): Bhartiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait on Sunday announced that a farmers’ meeting will be held Prayagraj on May 8 on the issue of alleged irregularities in land acquisition.

He said that land acquisition is a big issue in the country. “Land is being snatched in the name of land acquisition. Under a conspiracy in tehsils, the land is being registered in the names of different people so that people keep fighting with each other,” he alleged.

Speaking to reporters here, Tikait, who was a key figure in the farmers’ agitation against the now-repealed three central laws, said that farmers are facing harassment when they try to approach authorities for land measurement.

“If a businessman applies for land measurement, then his land is measured immediately. A big movement is also needed in Prayagraj,” he said.

Reacting to the murder of a Dalit man in the Karchana police station area in Prayagraj district, Tikait alleged that law and order has failed in Uttar Pradesh.

Tikait also said that he would meet the family members of three people murdered in Fatehpur.
