Srinagar: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Wednesday said that it has filed a chargesheet in case FIR No. 10/2022 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Section 120-B of the IPC at Police Station ACB Jammu.

In a statement, ACB said, “The chargesheet was submitted before the Hon’ble Court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption Jammu against Jyoti Devi, former Corporator of Ward No. 53, Trikuta Nagar, Jammu, and her husband Sham Lal, in a bribery trap case”.

“The case originated from a complaint alleging that Jyoti Devi demanded a bribe of ₹10,000 for issuing a Mulba Clearance Certificate related to works completed by the complainant. The certificate was necessary for the complainant to receive payment for the executed works. Jyoti Devi allegedly directed the complainant to contact her husband, Sham Lal, to make the payment”.

“Refusing to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB and lodged a formal complaint. Following this, the ACB conducted a discreet verification, which substantiated the bribery allegations. Consequently, a formal case was registered, and an investigation was initiated.

During the investigation, a trap team was constituted. The team successfully caught Jyoti Devi and Sham Lal red-handed while accepting the ₹10,000 bribe from the complainant. The bribe amount was recovered on the spot in the presence of independent witnesses. Both accused were arrested during the operation.

Upon conclusion of the investigation and after obtaining the requisite prosecution sanction from the government, the ACB filed the chargesheet against the accused. The Hon’ble Court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption Jammu has transferred the case to the Hon’ble Court of Additional Special Judge Anti-Corruption Jammu for judicial proceedings”.(KINS)
